If you're new to NSN, here's a simple way to see the 4 Domains in action. It's a happy accident that we can use the four significant players in this year's Presidential election to help you, the voting masses, see each domain personified. Here's the official NSN self-profiler guidelines.

Instructions...
Watch each video with the sound on with a mimimal amount of backgrounds distractions or time pressures...Read the comments below them and watch them a second time with the sound off and see if notice the cues each video offers...When you're done, figure out which one of the 4 most resembles the way you express and experience yourself socially. One will feel naturally more like you than the others.

John McCain PHYLO

When you watch McCain with sound on notice the way to breaks down the question. He hits on things like his children, his longevity, his physical vitality and other traditional ways of demonstrating alpha male leadership. Then he ends with a wise crack quickly followed with
a self-deprecating "I didn't mean it' heartfelt smile. You end up feeling his receptiveness while sensing his urgency to qualify himself as respectful listener yet wise critic of the younger generation. He has that elder of the tribe vibe down pat. When you watch the same video with the sound off, notice how he squares off to the questioner in a gesture of respect. He keeps a showing the audience a soft and open eye, suggesting a need for compassion here, he is old after all. Notice his frequent glances down and too the left, showing his self-talk is
making his measure and maybe calibrate his tone to a question he's tired of answering. Lastly, when he zings the questioner at the end, watch how the positive reaction of the crowd relaxes his face and body as he's accepted and received in the way he intended. It's a core signature of PHYLO's to feel like they belong, that people like them, and that the social bond is there on a tactile level on the surface...

Hillary Clintion ONTO

This short clip of Hillary is more demonstrable of how an ONTO influences everyone around them. Watch the reaction of her daughter, an EXO, Chelsea Clinton, to her mother's mock sadness upon being told she's not as likeable as Obama. Notice how she uses her voice tone to sound almost PHYLO, but like her smile at the beginning, it falls flat. She's not trying to bond here. She's making a statement. To her, this in not about a popularity contest. Why? She'd lose. So an ONTO will stick with her belief system as her guide. A PHYLO like say John Edwards would be crushed by news that he was unlikeable. The kicker is when an even flatter sape, Obama, diffuses the tension by offering that says' 'likeable enough" while barely glancing in her direction. If you watch it in silence, the lack of human connection is clearer to see. An ONTO seeks to connect mind to mind, idea to idea, so the physical registers are usually felt inside the receiver of their communication.
You can't watch this without having a bodily reaction to the ackwardness here, unless of course, you're ONTO or EXO and don't care.

Bill Clinton ECO

Here's a classic ECO demonstration by Bill. A core signature of this domain is they are averse to anything formal or obligatory and prefer more interactive and participatory settings. The other funny part here is that ECO's are body over mind in most situations, so he isn't able to hold back dosing off despite the fact he knows he's on camera. What's more, he probably doesn't care, which is also ECO of him. Then he compounds it by 'sneaking' a peek at his watch. ECO's either bond or bolt emotionally and since he couldn't get up and leave, he took a nap.
If you watch it with no sound, the irony is heightened and you can clearly see how Bill is in his own bubble the whole clip. It's all so ECO...

Barack Obama EXO

Finally, we have this EXO training video from Barack Obama. When you see it with the sound, notice how he makes a rational, factual and highly structured case to the crowd. This style of communicating is a core EXO Joe Friday 'Dragnet style' of reasoning things out. But the thing to notice, is just like Hillary beforehand, Obama is not bonding with the audience at all. He is simply stating his case and letting the facts speak for themselves. He doesn't return their smiles or soften his voice tone. He's methodical and measured, even monotone. If you watch it with the sound off, you see a man who would be just as certain of what he's saying if he was alone on the stage or if the crowd wasn't with him. It's that almost disembodied way of expressing himself that demonstrates his EXO-ness to those of you who haven't seen one in person much. No wasted motion, no phony gestures, no pleas for support and he stays present and alert to the task at hand. That pattern alone may explain why the usual tactics to discredit or sidetrack him have rolled off his back so far. It's literally non-sense to him.
